Rant on Taxes, Change, and what these things really mean to me: I'm fired up: be warned.

I wrote this blog on facebook because I saw an ad that made me furious on tv. I wanted to share it here too:

 Original blog:

I just have to say that although Obama is not planning on raising taxes for people who make under $250,000 a year (do YOU make that much???), EVEN IF HE WAS going to raise them for everyone- you all do realize that those taxes are not for his personal shopping trips, right? That money goes back into the country and YOU get it back, whether it be in roads, better healthcare, better protection...I can say completely honestly that I would be willing to pay higher taxes (and I am dirt poor) because taxes are necessary to get the country's debt under control. The key here is electing someone who will reform the way the government works. Yes, this may mean money. Money is usually involved in paying back debt.
John McCain has a commercial running about Obama raising taxes (nevermind that it says nothing about people making more or less than $250,000 a year...) where a man says, "So Barack Obama wants my sweat to pay for his trillion dollars in new spending?" THIS MONEY IS NOT FOR HIS PERSONAL USE. IT IS USED TO PAY FOR NECESSARY IMPROVEMENT AND UPKEEP OF THE COUNTRY. Personally, I realize that we all need to help out if we all want to keep the beautiful country that we have been so lucky to have in the past. We all must pitch in. Do not complain about the problems this country faces if you are unwilling to help fix them. The government does not just create more money when it needs money for improvements and upkeep and new organizations- it does not drop from the sky. We ALL are responsible for contributing. I can say completely and surely, I am a Real American and I recognize that taxes are a necessary part of the economy. We will ALL be helped in some way at some point using the taxes we all pay. Not only are they for the improvement our our nation, but they're to help get us out of debt that the last 8 years has gotten us into. If people don't want to pay taxes then they shouldn't be allowed to drive on roads, receive medicare, or send their kids to public schools. Doing things, anything mostly, requires money. I agree that it should be spent wisely, but money does in fact need to be spent to improve and maintain what we've all worked so hard to accomplish in America. As a real American (not only because I'm from a small town, but also because I was born in America) I'm willing to pay taxes to help this nation succeed. Now THAT is American. Not only that, but if you don't want to pay taxes then maybe the US military shouldn't protect you (if we are talking who is a real American and who’s not). Your tax money goes towards funding the military. I'd MUCH rather fund that then fund the Palin kid's plane trips to places they weren't invited.

I just felt that these things seem to be simple principles to me and I don’t understand how the RNC gets away with putting these ideas in people’s heads that simply make no sense. If I can do anything, I just want to give people a different opinion without trying to scare them. I think it is so important to defend one’s own candidate as opposed to putting down the opposite. THIS is why the tax plans hold up. THIS is the change I want. For those who say that we cannot articulate the change we want...I want: education that stands up against the levels of other countries, help for the middle class, reform of programs that are outdated, NO AMENDMENT ON GAY MARRIAGE, unity, better and more affordable healthcare that includes preventative care, stopping the handouts for big oil, money invested in alternative energy that doesn’t involve fossil fuels.....is this enough for those that say I can’t tell you what change means? It means this- I. Want. A. President. Who. Cares. About. Me.

That’s all.

Awesome blog! Did I infer

Awesome blog! Did I infer that you think paying taxes is, dare I say, patriotic? =) I went to an Obama rally in Jacksonville, Florida last month and an airplane flew overhead that said something like, "Paying taxes is not patriotic" because of Biden's comment on the topic shortly beforehand. The entire crowd booed. As a former Republican, I think one of the fundamental flaws in that party is that they believe in rewarding the wealthy so that it will trickle downward. Personally, I firmly believe that people making over $250,000 SHOULD pay more in taxes... they make significantly more than the majority of people in this country. The more you make, the more you should pay. I LOVE how McCain has been attacking Obama for saying that we should spread the wealth. It's appalling to me that he is ridiculing this concept. This coming from a man who has how many houses and how many cars? And, a bizillionairre wife. Disgusting. I'm just glad that this race will be over in 12 days and we'll be able to move forward as a country. I firmly believe that it will be with a leader, Obama, who will propel us into the future, not keep us firmly planted in the past.

Way to go, Beth! Let me

Way to go, Beth! Let me tell you a short story. My active duty military husband came home last year from work with a new flak vest and armor plating still in their original bags. He took the vest out of the bag and 2 grommets fell off. I mean, they just fell off in the floor. I was infuriated, yelling, "You mean to tell me that they expect you to go to the sandbox with shitty armor? There are gaps here that could now be penetrated by bullets!" He sighed and said, "the government buys from the cheapest producer." If the extremely wealthy people, (the ones who could wear our income as clothing), have to pay higher taxes to keep our soldiers, sailors, and airmen safer in combat, I am ok with that, and I'd be ok with paying higher taxes myself, too, as long as it kept my husband as safe as possible. You can't put a price on human life.

Just a thought...

Sigh. Presidential race aside... & accompanying hopes for sweeping government reformation aside... there is no reason ... sadly, zilch... to believe that the next administration, no matter who's at the helm, will be better at spending our money than the last. The only track record, regardless of party, of our government's spending is one of excessive, blatant misuse of funds. So I see zero reason why I should pay even more to be bungled on an even greater scale. Sarah, there's no evidence to suggest that more $$ coming out of our paychecks (middle class, low class, upper class, you name it) will ensure better protective gear for your hubby or my cousin. It might, however, buy a more expensive toilet seat for someone in the Pentagon. I don't trust the government to efficiently reform healthcare or any of the other hot topics. I do believe that perhaps I can spend that money well myself on my family's genuine needs. I earned it... they should allow me to keep it and spend it wisely. I suppose that's why I'm a Libertarian, which is a hopeless place to be at election time. "Trust Life's unfolding..."

Melissa, I applaud your

Melissa, I applaud your ability to step outside your original comfort zone and look inside to see what you really believe. I think that so many people in this country grow up with parents who are affiliated with one party or the other and so they don't question at all which party they most identify with.

Sarah- I have no understanding of the issue regarding the military because, thankfully, I have no one in my family or close friends who has chosen the military. I feel your pain though. If we are to entrust our money to go to the place that needs it most, and we see that our military is not properly protected, then I want to know a) what my money is used for, and b) if there is not enough to procure proper equipment, then why are we not paying more and making this happen?

Getaclewis- I completely understand your frustration with the way the country is run. I just happen to see it as an opportunity for change. Unfortunately, in the system we have today, members of other parties do not have much of a fighting chance. I think, though, that the best chance this country has of voicing opinions not typically heard is to elect someone new and different from the last eight years. The sooner people stop needing to be in the scared safety of the GOP, the sooner other people have the chance to make their views known. It would be wonderful if other parties could get their foot in the door. I do also believe that hard work should be rewarded. In terms of understanding that, I definitely think that Barack Obama is more likely to protect you and your hard work than John McCain. Taxes aside, the major party that most consistently stands up for the middle class is the democrats- so I believe they are our best option. I think that taxes do more than we think- they go towards roads, schools...everyday things we take for granted. I don't trust the government to do anything right either, necessarily- but what other option do we have? Isn't it best to keep trying until we find the government that will help? We must keep electing a president every four years; and as such, I would prefer it to be a democrat because their views most consistently speak to mine. Particularly Barack Obama- I think he thinks differently than anyone we have tried in recent years and I think he deserves (and we deserve) the chance to see if we can get some real work on our side in Washington. I think that if anyone is willing to help out our education standards, make healthcare more affordable (this particularly affects me because of my fibromyalgia), and cut programs which are outdated- it is Barack Obama. I think this country deserves the chance to have someone different try his (or her) hand at the country. For me, that person right now is Barack Obama.

So selfish

Democrats love money. They will tax us to death! Obama is scary and I pray he does not become our next President! We need to stand up for what is right! We need to speak up for the unborn babies that are being slaughtered everyday, marriage that so many people want to redefine, and stand up for putting God and prayer back into the schools so our children can learn the Truth!
