About Me
Kids: Have young kid(s)
Name: Bella Michelle
Occupation: writer/book reviewer/blogger
Relationship Status: Married
More about Me: In my high school memory book, I wrote in the “down the road dreams” section that I wanted to be the future Martha Stewart (and that was back when she had only the 1st Entertaining book – boy, was I short sighted!)…but, then she went to prison and I changed my mind. I also traded my dream of a shiny BMW in for a long relationship with Volvo (on #4 now) and carpooling 3 kiddos to and fro. I love to garden – oh yeah, I do belong to a Garden Club, piddle around the house, entertain, blog, and if you didn’t get it earlier…read. My husband and I are starting a new season of life with older kids, as the oldest just went to college this year, and to make it all exciting we are taking Ballroom Dancing lessons with all 6 of our left feet.
Favorite Music: I love country music! I didn't grow up listen to Country music (and I think it makes my parents just a little sick) but I love it. Throw in a dose of Contemporary Christian and a dollop of Blue Grass when the mood hits, and I am good to go. But, please don't tell my fellow Symphony Guild members (they might kick me out) as I am sure they would be horrified!
Favorite Books and Writers: I am a fan of Southern writers. Whether they write great literature or they give me a chuckle, I love the unique perspective Southern writers bring (maybe it is something about the “crazies” we all have in the family tree?). I love such a variety of works…from A light in August by William Faulkner, the short stories of Eudora Welty, A Member of the Wedding and A Heart is A Lonely Hunter by Carson McCullers (she was such a dark, southern mystery...and she grew up just a couple of streets over from where I lived for a time in Columbus GA that I can’t leave her out!) to more contemporary Southern writers such as Kathryn Stockett’s and her smash Best Seller The Help, Joshilyn Jackson’s God’s in Alabama, Charles Martin (When Crickets Cry, Where the River Ends, etc.) and the party won’t be complete unless I include sassy Southern writers such as Celia Rivenbark, Marlyn Swartz, Melinda Rainey Thompson and the like! See the South is so rich with culture it is hard to narrow it down to just a few!
I can't live without: uh...quite frankly I think there are lots of things I would have a whole lot of trouble living without…that whole running water thing is pretty cool, ya know! On the other hand, I could list off some great things like my 20 year old Penny Loafers that I still wear, dark chocolate, red lipstick and all kinds of "life necessities” (boy, that makes me sound pretty high maintenance, huh?) but when it comes down to it, I probably would have a hard time parting with my favorite books. Yep, I am a closet nerd-wanna-be librarian. What can I say…I love my books!
I am most proud of: my marriage and children. My husband and I have gone through some very rough patches but have managed to stay together and work until we have something that is even more beautiful than what we started with…and we know the work isn’t complete as we enter new seasons of life together. Not to mention, we haven’t done anything to each other that would land us on the TV show Cops, which is always a plus. Of course, I am proud of my children…they are so cool! I can’t believe I had anything to do with them but I will take the credit!!!
I am most guilty of: hmmmmm…I try not to be guilty. I don’t even speed!
Words I live by: ….”It could be worse” and “Well, there you go….” and "Southerness....it is just a way of life."
The world would be a better place, if only: people wouldn’t wear ugly shoes…seriously.
Interests: Reading, my family, gardening, decorating, entertaining, learning a little bit about photography (enough to make me dangerous!).
