Mother's day poem
By ascreamin, Sunday, May 10, 2009My mother, Carol, died of ovarian cancer in August 2002. She was 69 years old. That year after her death was the one and only time that poems came pouring out of me. Below is one that I wrote on that first mother’s day following her death.
Happy mother’s day to all you mommies out there – it is the hardest job ever!
Mother’s Day Wisdom
Don’t worry so much
Appreciate what you have, even if it’s not perfect
Try not to think so much about everything
Laugh
Watch baseball
Life goes by quickly
Savor it
When you’re feeling blue
Get a manicure
Or go to the gym
You’ll feel better
It’s not always possible to live life fully
But when you can remember to, try it
If a cop pulls you over for speeding, cry
It might work
Drink only as much as you need to
get a little tipsy
Take your vitamins
Bring a sweater
Enjoy the little things
Even the pricey ones -
The Bloomies ones
But remember,
In the end
It’s our relationships
And who we are,
And how we treat each other,
That matters most.
So be good to each other
And have a good life
I did.
Love,
Mom
