1. Judy Heath, founder of The Life Guidance Center in Charleston, was instrumental in counseling those affected by 9/11. Her new book, No Time for Tears: Surviving Grief in America, is a result of what she has learned from personal losses, those of her patients and years of research.
2. Sneak veggies in for yourself, not just your kids! Add a finely shredded or diced carrot to your marinara or Bolognese sauce to offset the acidity of the tomatoes and sneak some more vegetables into your diet.
3. National Women’s Checkup Day is May 9th. This year, take the pledge to schedule a checkup if you’re overdue for regular health screenings like mammograms, Pap smears and colonoscopies.

5. “Ego becomes dominant when your personal agenda is small. You become selfconscious and competitive because it’s what you think you need to do in order to survive. When your little boat gets caught up on a wave that’s bigger than you are, ego drops away.” Sister Helen Prejean, In Sweet Company: Conversations with Extraordinary Women about Living a Spiritual Life by Margaret Wolff.
