By Sara Conrad, Friday, February 26, 2010March, the beginning of spring and beginning of pining for summer, is often my least favorite month. Much like a Wednesday, it screams ordinary.
However, it holds a special perk: it’s Women’s History Month. In Jacksonville, a flurry of women’s events that celebrate women’s suffrage and diversity are taking place this month, transforming March into a decidedly un-ordinary time. (Make sure to check out What’s Happening in skirt! each week, so you don’t miss any important events.)
This is exciting and a bit overwhelming. While I’m thankful for the month dedicated to women’s triumphs and struggles, I always find myself asking: Why do women only get a month of kudos? Then again, moms only get a day in May. So I guess I shouldn’t complain.
March also takes us closer to tax filing deadline time, and let me just say, money is definitely on our minds. That’s why we’ve named our March issues The Ka-ching! Issues. Be sure to check out our national essays regarding money: everything from issues of pay inequity to the plights of the stereotypical shopaholic. Relate to our Odd Jobs profiles of local women who make their money in unusual or original ways.
Then, check out skirtjacksonville.com for contests and giveaways to benefit your financial situation. Because in the end, skirt! is all about you.
