Wardrobe Change!
By Aquarius83, Tuesday, March 3, 2009Walking towards the car this morning, my fiancee asked how long I’d had the pair of sweat pants I was wearing. I looked down at the black cargo pants and answered affectionately, Since the 7th grade. He then stated if he could burn any article of clothing that I owned, it would be these pants.
Yes, I have owned a pair of sweat pants for over a decade, and I continuously wear them on a day-to-day basis. They have become a staple of my morning routine. And I love them.
They are baggy. They have cargo pockets, which I snuck cigarettes and boy’s phone numbers in during their early ages. They are cut on the bottom because they were too long when I bought them. They have a small cigarette burn in the leg, probably from when I was kissing a boy in between cigarette puffs during their teen years. I wash them constantly and they haven’t faded. And they’ve fit me every time I’ve put them on since that very first day.
I love my black sweat pants, and I don’t know what it would take to throw them away. Only a visit from Clinton and Stacy could convince me that it was time to trash them. But I bet they would be my one item that I would cling to, hugging, begging them to let me keep forever.
Why is it that there are some items we hold onto until forcibly removed from ownership? I always hear that memories will stay no matter what you have to remind you. Yet it seems so much easier to remember while holding onto a piece of the past.
What do you cling to?
