Trial in Reflective Writing

I bought “the daily Writer” by Fred White yesterday from Borders. I believe I saw it featured on Skirt!, and when I saw its familiar face on the shelf, I had to get it. This is a great tool for those who may have writer’s block, such as myself.
Today, the suggestion was to look at an Edward Hopper painting and write. The painting above is called, “Rooms by the Sea”. This painting feels like today, hot and muggy, living in the Clearwater/Tampa area. Here goes...
The sun is shining through the door and windows, but the children can’t go outside to play. Inside is warm. A nap took place on the couch minutes ago, and now one glance outside turns the sunshine to fear. The water is so close. Too close. Too deep. It is lonely, and there is no one to help. It is comfortable inside. Comfortably inescapable, but she didn’t see the water rising. White noise buzzes on the television set bought by her father at a yard sale last summer. The reception has been lost for weeks, but the noise is comforting when alone. She is trapped. She does not own a boat, and she is afraid of sharks. Her home is no longer by the sea, but within the sea. Who will miss her while she’s gone?
What thoughts come to your mind when you look at this?! At first it seems so beautiful, so serene. But the water is right at the door’s edge. It reminds me of the flooding happening in Fargo and other Northern states. Eery. Take a shot!
