SKIRT! Team Challenge: Body: “I'm a Loser!”

Yeah, what's it to ya?  I'm a loser...or at least I will be!  It has only been three days since the beginning of the, SKIRT! Team 2011 Mind~ Body~ Spirit challenge.  Not nearly enough time to be able to say, “Gee, I lost 5lbs!” That’s just not reasonable. It took me years and years to put all this weight on so I suspect it will be just as slow coming off.

So, I’m keeping in mind that each day holds its own success.  As to my successes, I list them as:

My first success…Dragging my lazy but out of bed at 4:30am to hit the gym! I’ve allotted myself Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays for this masochistic endeavor.  I’m also requiring myself to make one weekend trip to the gym on top of my three day commitment.  As I progress I might add more gym days but for now I’m doing well not to hit the snooze on my 4:30am alarm.  Baby steps, I keep reminding myself, take baby steps.  I want to end up successful by the end of this challenge, not burned out.

So, I’m getting up, no excuses.  I’m motivating myself by imagining the possibilities…that for the first time in my life I might actually be able to wear a bikini without an animal rescue group trying to wrestle me back into the ocean (where I obviously belong).

My personal challenge: Gravity…If I can just fight the gravity of my warm, comfy bed in the morning, all else seems to fall in line.  Another personal challenge…I don’t love to exercise.  I appreciate how I feel afterwards but during it, all I can think about is the count down until it’s done.  So, I’m challenging myself to find new ways to motivate myself – who knows, maybe I’ll even find something that I love doing.

My second success…I have not killed my lovely husband yet.  My wonderful, driven husband has decided to go vegetarian. I’m not opposed to his decision and I even admire him for his choice but as the main cook for the family it puts a good deal of pressure on me.  But we’ve bought a wonderful vegetarian cookbook and I am trying to embrace this new change with a positive outlook.

My personal challenge:  To not become completely meat deprived and rip the flesh off my husband’s bones.  Just kidding.  No, my personal challenge is to see if I can somehow fit this new lifestyle change into my weight loss program. Who knows, perhaps this will be a blessing in disguise.

My third success…I have successfully followed my weight loss program for three full days! No cheating and no grumbling.  Ok, maybe a little grumbling.   I find it very hard to eat reasonably.  I mean, I didn’t get big by ignoring food.  I like to eat and there are so many wonderful foods out there begging for me to try them! So, I’m psyched that I’ve successfully negotiated a healthy life style for three days.  So, as sad as this success sounds, I’ve negotiated three days of eating healthy.

My personal challenge: Our society is one where we celebrate our successes with food as well as our sad moments.  I’m trying to learn new ways to celebrate that don’t include a chocolate milk shake.

Personal Statistics as of 1-3-2011

Height: 5’4”

Weight:             162.6

BMI:                27.9

*When you hear from me next Monday, I’m hoping to be a loser…

*Having a BMI of between 25 and 29.9 is considered overweight. There are many free BMI calculators available on the web. But, don’t just check your BMI…be prepared to do something about it!

You can do it!

Indeed, you can do it! But I just want to ask or suggest, if 4:30 a.m. does prove too hard, might you try working out after work or at lunch? I'm just sooo not a morning person so I give you extra big props for going so early in the morning! lol Look forward to hearing of your progress.

Jody

Morning Person

Hi Jody,

I'm actually a morning person...e-gads, that doesn't say much for my intelligence, does it?  Over the years I've learned that most of my best work is done first thing in the morning.  By noon I'm slowing down and lucky if I can stay on track.  By 5pm I'm wiped and can hardly think beyond getting home and crashing.  I could try to tweak my schedule but my husband is also a morning person so it's easier to just get up and hit the gym. I've also learned that I like to make excuses...and I have lots and lots at my disposal for why I should skip the gym in the afternoons or evenings.  So, if I get up before my brain has a chance to connect and start making excuses, I'm more likely to zombie my way out of bed and into the gym : )

Andi-We mighht have identical

Andi-We mighht have identical stats.:) Kudos to you for reporting it. (I have been out of town, but plan on getting on the scales in the next 24 hours. )

One suggestion, that makes my exercise bearable is MUSIC! It is FOR SURE what pushes me that extra mile! I love old 80's music, turn it up ( too loud) get a little shake and jive in my walk... sometinmes I sing. (Not good). It leads me to wanting to run, inrhythmn of course.  But really, it is the single biggest help to me, hands down, EVER!!! Best of luck, and congrats on your 3 days!

I LOVE MUSIC

I'll give my iPod a try.  Usually I hit the weight room for a few minutes then head off to the movie room for some brainless walking or time on the elliptical.  I'm going to start mixing up my routine and using music as a motivator is a great idea.

Thanks! 3 days in and doing fine : )

WOW!!

Okay, fighting the green-eyed monster here.  I'll acknowledge the Boo-Man as #1 . . . but I do hope I'm next in line for the sticky, icky, sad parts.  And for more of the good stuff.  Sheesh, andi, I've read all the blogs, and your writing is incredible!  Toss that bushel off your light, and share a little more.  I'm storming the Citadel for your journals pretty soon.  I'm very, very, very proud of you, Kiddo.  Haven't I always said you could do anything you set your heart and mind to do?  And that means "you" as andi, not "you" as a collective.  Writing, painting, losing weight, hiking . . . and being the the absolute best of friends.  That's you.  All love and hugs.
