Skirt Challenge ~ Spirit, Mind, Body ~ "A Day of Rest, part II"

Surely I’m not the only person conflicted by “A day of Rest.”  On the outside it sounds so simple - create a day of rest for yourself – that’s my challenge. But, when I get down to the nitty-gritty details I realize that it’s harder than it seems. How do I rest without feeling guilty about putting off other pressing commitments? What about my loved ones? How do I create my own day without feeling that I’m neglecting them in some way?   Then there’s the whole problem of not knowing what a day of rest looks like.
Really, what does a day of rest look like? What would I DO with an entire day to myself? The closest I get to being truly restful is when I’m having a sick day. Of course, I spend most of my time feeling miserable because I’m too sickly to actually accomplish anything. Not really restful, huh?
This, my friends, is the culture we Americans have created for ourselves. And, I’m so disturbed by the thought that we’re losing our ability to rest that I’ve set myself the challenge of experiencing a FULL day of rest. The first part of my challenge is to identify the answers to the following questions. The last part of my challenge is to create my day of rest…maybe you’d like to join me in answering these questions for yourself?
1st If you had an entire day to yourself, what would it look like? Yeah, you only think this one sounds easy!  But, I want to know what you would do with an ENTIRE day. Not just a single activity, or a few moments stolen between commitments. I want to know what a full day of rest would look like.
2nd How do you recharge your batteries? My father-in-law and I talk about this often. We talk about how some people find constant activity and socialization to be their ‘charge’ while others recharge by retreating into themselves. So, how do you recharge and gain energy in your life?
3rd How do you negate any feelings of guilt that come with a day of rest? This one is tough because I think we all carry a lot of guilt around. Maybe we feel guilty because we’ve convinced ourselves that we have projects that need to be finished. Or maybe we have loved ones who we feel need to be include in our day.   Then again, maybe a day of rest is spending time with your loved ones…
4th What is most likely to sabotage your day of rest? I think it is important to identify these “interruptions” ahead of time. So that when the interruption comes, you know how to handle it. Because I’m sorry, there are some interruptions that you KNOW you can count on. Like the phone…then there are the ones that you just can’t ignore, like when little Johnnie calls to tell you that he wants to come home from his sleepover.
So there we have it. The four questions that I feel I need to answer before I can have a day of rest. I’m hoping to have them answered by next week. Hey, I’m not rushing into this thing. If I’m going to do it, I want to do it right!

I know what you mean about

I know what you mean about sick days. If I amnot deathly sick I am feeling soooooooo guilty about being out! One idea Andi- can you "make" your family rest with you???

1. I rrrreally don't know. Maybe the closest is a day on the beach, with my sister or another adult I don't have to wait on... and we go out to eat for dinner- no dishes???

2.being at HOME

3.vacation is a good excuse and margaritas negate guilt! LOL

4.having an ( is it ulteior or alterior or something else...)  another motive , or if you decide you are going to "accomplish " something. Even if it is finish reading a book, or staying in the sun too long... I think a day of R&R negates "accomplishing" anything. That is where I struggle.
