The Grinch lives in Chicago
By AmyD75, Friday, December 2, 2011I just read an interesting article on MSNBC about a Chicago newscaster who decided to be a parent to all children and inform them that Santa is not real!
Apparently, Robin Robinson with WFLD out of Chicago was covering a segment about the high costs of Christmas especially for parents as they continue to appease their children by keeping up the charade that Santa is real. Of course, with the news being live there wasn't an opportunity for parents to usher their children out of the room, nor did Robinson at least alert parents that children might need to leave the room. What makes this even more appalling is her reasoning behind it and I quote:
“Stop trying to convince your kids that Santa is Santa. That’s what my take is. Forget about it. That’s why they have these high expectations. They know you can’t afford it, so they’re going to ask some man in a red suit. There’s no Santa!” I think she gives kids too much credit. I believe that a lot of kids genuinely believe in Santa and they don't "use" the jolly old man.
She goes even further by stating this: "children should learn the truth as soon as they can talk."
As many of you know, I'm a first time mother and while my son is merely 9 weeks old, much too young to really understand everything that goes on during the Christmas season, I still plan to honor the age old tradition of Santa Claus. I can't imagine telling my son as soon as he can talk, which could be within the next couple of years, that Santa isn't real. And the fact that she wants to play parent to everyone's children by telling them exactly when a child should be told about Santa, is so infuriating.
I just can't believe how insensitive she is/was.
