Silence....and the new Skirtsetter Twitter Stream
By AmpItUp, Wednesday, July 22, 2009Hi, fellow Skirtsetters! (Can you say "fellow" when you're refering to an all-female audience...? Hmm...)
I haven't been blogging here lately, but I have't been blogging on my own site, either (www.possibilitiesamplified.com), and I haven't been writing any newsletters. All of my creative energy is being poured into Miami, FL, where I am wearing several hats, including Program Manager for the Knight Center of Digital Excellence (www.knightcenter.org), and Director for the Miami-Dade Broadband Coalition (www.advancemiami.org).
If you've been following the federal Stimulus story at all, you might be aware that, after months of deliberation, the Feds released the broadband Notice of Fund Availability (NOFA) on July 1, a 250-page document, giving the country 6 whole weeks to apply for the funds. The eligibility requirements pretty much prevent any city in the country from applying, and I hear that even rural areas will have a hard time being eligible.
However, being the believer in possibilities that I am, we are applying, anyway. One way I'm keeping on top of policy changes and interacting with others going through this process is by watching specific Twitter streams. A "stream" is when a bunch of people post on the same topic, and they include keywords in their posts with a pound sign (#) in front. The broadband streams are #btop, #bbstim, #rus, #ntia, etc. I do a search for those terms, and I can see what everybody is saying. It creates a little Twitter universe just for us.
You can promote your blog by joining the popular streams out there related to your topical area. But more importantly, you can join the new Twitter #skirtsetter stream and chat with all your skirt blogging pals, by adding "#skirtsetter" to your Twitter posts. I started the stream with its first post today.
Of course, every post you make with #skirtsetter in it while create curiosity and perhaps inspire a Google search on it, which will take everyone to this page: www.skirt.com/skirtsetter. My apologies, Skirtorati, but I opted to leave out the exclamation point to save a character. Twiiter only gives you 140!
Get out there and Tweet! I am so impressed by your writing. The world needs to read you. Love--Kim
