If you want to get lost in a book...
By AmandaTurner, Thursday, September 8, 2011Read You Deserve Nothing by Alexander Maksik. This is one of those can't-put-it-down books that forces you to remind yourself that the characters are fictional, because you find yourself caring deeply for them. Will Silver is a teacher at an international school in Paris. He's engaging, thoughtful, smart. He cares about his students and the role he will play in their lives. But he finds himself with a private life that differs greatly from the morality of him that others assume. The story of his affair with a student is told through three perspectives in a literary novel of entirely unpretentious prose. It is lilting, compelling, urgent and sensual. And it's a wonderful way to get lost in words.
