My Intuition Blog Experiment: An Easy Slide into 2011
By Amanda Jean Clothier, Thursday, December 30, 2010It's Week 48, Day 1 of my blog experiment and this week, the house has been a wreck. My husband and I have been snoozing on the couch while the kids play trains and eat graham crackers for breakfast. We've gone for runs in the snow and played with slinkys on the steps. It's been fabulous. Down, down, down time. I didn't even blog last week. But, I feel the schedules creeping back in. After all, the kids have to put on something other than new pajamas each day. This is ok, too. I'm just about ready for the holidays to draw to a close. But, for now, I want to remember what I learned this past week.
My husband and I aren't typically in the house together for this much time and this week, thanks to a light schedule, we both let go. Instead of nagging each other or getting frustrated, we somehow naturally fell into taking turns--whether it was napping, watching the kids or cleaning up the kitchen. We didn't question what the other wanted to do. We just fell into a rhythm of laziness, interspersed with the occasional store run or other errand. While the new year is getting ready to crank up, I know this will change. There will be demands and my comfort level with leaving rooms of the house in temporary disarray will fade, but I want to hold on to a piece of it and remember that being lazy once in a while is good for everyone.
We haven't quite figured out New Year's yet except for the fact that it will include a lot of lounging around the house and probably a decent amount of chips and dip. I don't care if we celebrate at midnight or a little early, at say 10 p.m., when the kids are at the end of their celebration rope. In the past, this wouldn't be the case. I'd force the march till midnight. But hey, we have TiVo. The kids can still see the ball drop, even if it's the next morning.
I'm not entirely sure what I what from 2011 just yet but the one thing I know for sure is I want it to come naturally.
