More of my favorite things
By Alison, Wednesday, December 12, 2007, 4 commentsEggnog: Although I find that I have about zero holiday spirit this year, I bought some Organic Valley eggnog, and I’m loving it. It’s mostly cream and sugar, so it’s perhaps not all that great for me, but it has no artificial ingredients, and it’s so delicious. It’s making me feel a tiny bit less Grinchy.
Vaguely indie but mostly mainstream movies: If they’re a bit thinky, but quite palatable and not too dense, I’m a fan. Examples include Garden State, Little Miss Sunshine, and Me and You and Everyone We Know.
Incredibly mainstream movies: For some reason, I have a bit of an obsession with a certain class of films that require me to silence my inner feminist critic. Films like Star Wars and the Lord of the Rings trilogy. I also love the Matrix and Bourne movies, but I think those might be more defensible from a feminist perspective.
Bitch magazine: Fun, feminist exploration of pop culture--smart, political, and these days likely to keep me from being such a fogey. I just got the latest issue but haven’t had a chance to read it yet. (Does my love for Bitch balance out my love for Aragorn, son of Arathorn?)
Hearing the heat come on in the morning: I’m usually the earliest up at my house, and when I’m sitting in the living room, drinking the day’s first cup of coffee (also one of my favorite things--that first sip), hearing the heat click on is strangely soothing. Maybe it’s a reminder that I’m in a warm, safe house, that I have money to pay the bills, that many of the creatures I love are under my roof. It’s very comfortable.
