By by: Donna Ison, Tuesday, January 10, 2012Shevawn inspired us all with her Winning Warrior essay about her struggle with breast cancer in our October “Think Pink” issue. Now, she hopes to use her experience to make Lexington a better place.
In her own words:
"As most of you know, 2011 was a tumultuous year for me, filled with many ups and downs. As a result, I have a renewed passion for making a difference and believe that now is the time for me to make an even larger impact in my community. Since learning that Councilman Tom Blues will not seek reelection this year, I've decided to run for 2nd District Urban County Council in the 2012 election. Before my name can be placed on the ballot, however, I need to collect 100 signatures from registered voters throughout the 2nd Council District. As with any election, it takes a team effort to win which is where each of you comes in.
Ways you can help:
- Connect me with your friends, family and contacts who live in the 2nd District so that I can meet with them, talk to them and get to know their needs (my contact info is below). The 2nd District includes 23 precincts. Some of the streets and neighborhoods that make up this district are: Leestown Rd, Georgetown Rd, West Main, Old Georgetown St, Oakwood, Highlands, Bracktown Rd, Woodward Heights, Melrose Oak Park, St. Martins Village, Coldstream Station, North Upper St, Speigle Heights, Price Rd, Manchester St, Griffin Gate, Citation, Meadowthorpe, Marehaven, McConnell's Trace, Masterson Station, etc. If you know anyone who lives in these areas, PLEASE let them know I am running for Council and would LOVE to meet with them ASAP.
- Walk with me to collect the required 100+ signatures
- Host a house party to introduce me to your friends, neighbors & constituents.
- Donate to my campaign or host a fundraiser on my behalf.
- Help me spread the news of my campaign, by walking or making phone calls with me.
I am beyond excited for the opportunity to serve Lexington as a member of the Urban County Council. Thank you so much, in advance, for your support. Please do not hesitate to call or email me at any time if you have any questions, concerns or thoughts on the 2012 election.
