Red Alert: Global Campaign Launches To Help Young Women Rebuild Self-Esteem

“Campaigning for confidence and celebrating individuality in young women worldwide” is a global initiative launched this month by The Red Alert Youth Beauty Campaign. The campaign, created by UK plus-size model, Mayowa Anthea Adebiyi aims to generate awareness of the lack of confidence in the female youth community, help them to regain their confidence, and help people to understand how self-esteem has lowered in the younger generation.

Through the campaign, Mayowa hopes that young women will become confident in their own skin, realise that we naturally come in all varying shapes and sizes, and that fashion is for all of us.

She says: “Even with the reported rise in 'Fatshion' blogs to celebrate plus-size couture, the emergence of curvy celebrities in the media and the backlash size zero models on the catwalk, our perception of what is considered beautiful is still this one-size-fits-all approach.
“In today’s society women from a young age are constantly bombarded with unrealistic images from the media. We are lead to believe that to be considered beautiful you have to be a certain size, race and colour. As a successful plus-size model of colour I’m hoping this campaign will boost other women’s confidence and give them the belief they are beautiful!”

By giving young women the chance to share their stories, the campaign also aims to help young women realise they are not alone and no longer have to be solitary in their feelings of self-inadequacy.  It will also offer guidance and give young women the opportunity to express and relate through creativity including expert advice, inspirational messages, fantastic poetry, great music, and letters.

The Red Alert Youth Beauty Campaign also intends to gain young women’s thoughts and opinions to reflect to society how they think about themselves and their bodies. Additionally it will also offer health and nutritional advice that will help to achieve a happier and healthier lifestyle.
