Bluegrass Rape Crisis Center Needs Volunteers!

BRCC was founded in 1974 by a group of committed volunteers—and volunteers continue to assist the Center in its goal to eradicate sexual violence. Crisis counselors As a BRCC volunteer crisis counselor, you will have the unique opportunity to provide valuable direct services to those impacted by sexual violence.
Direct service volunteer opportunities include:
Answer the 24-hour crisis line. Provide crisis counseling to callers. Give callers basic legal and medical information. Meet survivors and their friends/family at Lexington hospitals to provide medical advocacy, crisis counseling, and information/referrals Accompany survivors to the Lexington police department if needed.
Outreach volunteers:
On-call and ready to respond to survivors within their home office's region. Provide medical and/or legal advocacy by meeting survivors and their family/friends at local hospitals and police departments.
All direct service volunteers receive 40 hours of state-mandated training, plus continuing education opportunities, supervision, and support.
Volunteer requirements: Must be 20 years of age Must have reliable transportation Must complete all interviews and the 40-hour training as well as comply with all BRCC standards We welcome both women and men as direct service volunteers, but the crisis line is answered only by women.
